UPCOMING CONCERTS

The past few years have seen an growth in the amount of Swiss music performed in Russian concert halls. Nevertheless, the opening concert of the second St. Petersburg International New Music Festival reMusik will be a pleasant surprise not only to the sophisticated listener, but also to all those who are interested in Swiss culture and trends, especially in the context of contemporary music.

In the project “Swiss Made in Russia,”pieces written by Swiss composers have been more often performed by Russian musicians, but his time, the festival organizers are widening the path of cultural dialogue and creative exchange. Performances by Swedish cellist Karolina Öman and the leading French-Swiss ensemble Lemanic Modern Ensemble under the direction of William Blank, professor at the Lausanne Conservatory, will present compositions of leading composers and pedagogues of both French and German Switzerland —Klaus Huber, Dieter Ammann, Michael Jarrel and William Blank himself, as well as the works of one of the most important proponents of contemporary music studies in Russia, Vladimir Tarnopolsky.

Lemanic Modern Ensemble will be performed at the Mariinsky Theatre
On May 21st in the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre, featuring a performance by renowned Swiss group Lemanic Modern Ensemble (Lausanne) joined by cellist Karolina Öman (Sweden(Switzerland). On May 23rd on the stage of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic (Glinka Hall) the ensemble will present another program, this time dedicated to French composers, and at 4 p.m. in the Documentary Film Studio there will be a lecture recital entitled “Microtonal Systems.”

Ensemble Vortex

Meeting with composer William Blank
Of particular interest to both professional musicians and the general public are events promoting cultural exchange between Russian and Swiss schools of composition. In this vein, the reMusik festival is organizing creative meetings at the St. Petersburg Conservatory with composer William Blank.

Studio for New Music Ensemble (Moscow)
The concert of “Studio for New Music Ensemble” in the second St. Petersburg International New Music Festival reMusik is presented as a part of the 20th anniversary celebration of the group’s founding. Swiss composers will be featured —Michael Jarrel, William Blank and Beat Furrer, whose creative and pedagogical activities have helped to formulate a world of contemporary music.
