The Walden School Creative Musicians Retreat

A 9-day festival held in New Hampshire, The Creative Musicians Retreat is for composers, improvisers, performers, electronic musicians, choral musicians, and music teachers. This year’s retreat will be June 11-19, 2022.

Freed from day-to-day distractions, a diverse group of participants take private composition and instrumental lessons, sing in chorus, attend improvisation workshops, hear concerts, and participate in Composers Forums. New music by composers at the retreat is workshopped by the ensemble-in-residence, artists-in-residence, and performer-participants.

Walden faculty members Caroline Mallonee, D. J. Sparr, Renée Favand-See, and Osnat Netzer offer week-long seminars on contemporary topics and pedagogy. Courses in electronic music program are taught by Sam Pluta and Alex Christie.

The 2022 Composer-in-Residence, Lei Liang, will be on campus all week, moderating three Composers Forums, conducting master classes, and giving private composition lessons.

Our ensemble-in-residence will be the International Contemporary Ensemble.
