The Composition Program @ Sewanee Summer Music Festival

The composition program of the Sewanee Summer Music Festival is accepting applications for its 2021 on-campus festival.

This year, the program will include individual and group sessions, premieres and master classes with guest artists. We will have a full week dedicated to film scoring that will end with a live recording of the new works! Additionally, and in collaboration with the SSMF Opera Intensive program, composition participants will have the opportunity to write, workshop and premiere short one-act operas. We will continue with our one-on-one colabs and much more! Our guest conductors this summer will be Kalena Bovell, Janna Hymes, Robert Moody, JoAnn Falletta, Gene Moon.

There will be many adjustments to the season related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. We plan to keep applicants updated on these changes via our website and social media channels. At this time, we are planning for an in-person program. We also have multiple alternative options, including hybrid and fully online options. Those details are still being worked out by Festival and University leadership.

COVID-19 information – UPDATED December 14, 2020
At The Sewanee Summer Music Festival, we take the health and well-being of our students, faculty, Festival Artists, patrons, staff, and community seriously. Though we are optimistically planning for a safe, LIVE, in-person Festival this summer, the circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 virus are ever-evolving.

With this in mind, Music Festival staff are continuously in touch and working closely with the University of the South leadership, and following the CDC, and state and federal government guidelines. We will remain flexible in order to operate within these guidelines to keep our community safe.
