NYC Contemporary Music Symposium – Flute Call for Submissions

The NYC Contemporary Music Symposium seeks submissions for our fall 2021 concert in New York City with flutist Jonah Murphy. Featuring the works of 4-8 selected composers, the concert will take place in Manhattan in collaboration with the dedicated musicians and creators of NYCCMS. Each selected composer will receive a high-quality audio and video recording of their performance. Composers are encouraged, but not required, to attend the event.

Awards:
• 4-8 winners will receive a performance and professional recording (audio and edited video) of their work
• All applicants will receive future programming consideration
• Finalist and Semi-finalist awards distributed at the discretion of the curation team

Requirements/Information:
• This call is open to all composers
• Works must be scored for solo, unaccompanied flute
• All musical aesthetics are welcome
• Works must not exceed a duration of 10 minutes
• Works need not be premieres nor be composed specifically for this project
• Up to three entries per composer are permissible, each requiring a separate entry fee
• Composers are welcome to attend the performance; regrettably we are unable to offer travel stipends
• The concert will take place in early Fall of 2021
• Entry fee of $15 payable through PayPal to SubmissionsNYCCPS@gmail.com

Submission Instructions:
• Send cleanly-formatted scores in .pdf format to mail@nyccms.com
• Include your PayPal receipt as proof of payment with your submission
• All entrants will be notified of their status on or before 09/01/21
• This call is not anonymous
• Recordings/MIDI files are highly recommend but not required

About Flutist Jonah Murphy:
Jonah Murphy is a New York City-based flutist. Honors performance include awards from New York Flute Club Competition (first prize), YoungArts, Alexander & Buono International Flute Competition, and the National Flute Association High School Soloist competition (finalist), and most recently, the Fall 2020 Lillian Fuchs Competition in chamber performance. He has participated in masterclasses with Stefan Hoskuldsson, Nicholas Duchamp, Mark Sparks, Mindy Kaufman, Sooyun Kim, and others, and, at Orford Music International Festival, with Robert Langevin, Julien Beaudiment, Michael Cox, Jennifer Gunn, and others. Also an active composer; Mr. Murphy has won awards from ASCAP, YoungArts, NextNotes, National Young Composers Challenge, Mata Jr., and the Chamber Music Society of Rochester.
