Multimedia Composition Masterclass

4-10 October 2021
Piacenza, Italy

Incó_ntemporanea Festival announces a multimedia composition masterclass with Alexander Schubert and Collettivo_21 as ensemble in residence.

Participation in the masterclass is free of charge and open to composers of any nationality up to 35 years of age. The aim of the masterclass is the exploration and deepening of the aspects and techniques related to performance music and to the creation of a multimedia work.
Participants will have the opportunity to collaborate with the ensemble collettivo_21 and work on their own projects under the supervision of Alexander Schubert as main professor.
At the conclusion, collettivo_21 will perform the works developed during the masterclass in concert.

The deadline for registration is 1 June 2021.
The results of the selection will be announced by 15 June 2021.
The masterclass will take place on 4-10 October 2021.

The masterclass is free of charge, will take place from the 4th to the 10th October 2021 (included), and will be comprised of lessons with Alexander Schubert, rehearsals with collettivo_21, the final concert as part of the Incó_ntemporanea festival, and meetings and seminars with guest musicologists and composers.

The masterclass will focus on the creation of six multimedia works. The available ensemble will consist of percussion (1 player), piano, guitar (also electric guitar) and electronics; each candidate is free to use any possible combination of the listed instruments. Projects involving the use of live or fixed electronic media, video, augmented instruments, and with a strong performative component will be accepted. In case of special technical requirements, please communicate this when submitting your project. The maximum duration of the project is 10 minutes.

The festival does not cover participants’ travel, board and lodging expenses.

The possibility of attending the masterclass as auditors is limited to 10 participants; participation is free of charge, subject to availability.

Incó_ntemporanea festival, by directly comparing itself with the artistic programmes of the biggest European festivals, contextualises itself in the Italian panorama with a proposal that combines continuous technological evolution with research into contemporary themes, integrating a multidisciplinary approach to the artistic forms themselves. Fundamental to the artistic and cultural development of the Piacenza (and not only) area, Incó_ntemporanea 2021 offers a multitude of windows to observe, with due curiosity, the contemporary musical world of research.
