Impulse New Music Festival 2021

August 1 – 14, 2021, Online Worldwide

Impulse New Music Festival is now accepting applications for its 2021 Online Festival. Early-career composers and performers are eligible to apply for this immersive training program focused on the creative and practical skills for for a career in the arts today.

COMPOSERS: Apply for our Impulse Fellowships or Brightwork Fellowships to work on a new or existing composition through lessons with composition faculty, workshops and readings with performance faculty, and access to masterclasses on a range of topics. Your piece will be performed by our performance faculty or ensemble-in-residence, Brightwork, as a part of our 2021 Streaming Concert Series.

Composers wanting to instead focus solely on studying with composition faculty may apply for the Composition Lessons program. You will improve and refine your craft through one-on-one lessons and access to festival masterclasses and concerts, and may submit electronic or pre-recorded works for consideration on our streaming series.

PERFORMERS: Apply for our Performance Lessons program to study with our instrumental faculty: available instruments are flute, violin, viola, cello, and piano. These one-on-one lessons give you the opportunity to work with specialists in new music to refine technique, explore new repertoire, or polish works for upcoming performances or juries. Participants will have access all festival masterclasses and streaming concerts, and may submit video recordings for consideration on our streaming concert series.

In addition to the main programs, INMF 2021 is offering individualized lessons in conducting, and a review of your professional documents with video consultation. Participants in Fellowship or Lessons programs will have prioritized access to these additional resources.
