Festival DME|International Summer School for composers

The educational and concert platform for new music DME — Dias de Música Electroacústica is announcing the International Summer School for composers in collaboration with the Strasbourg-based new music collective, lovemusic. It will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, on July 5-10, 2021. Composers regardless of age and residence are welcome to apply.

Invited composition tutors: Mario Mary (Argentina-France/Monaco), Valerio Sannicandro (Italy-France) and Jaime Reis (Portugal), who will give group and individual lessons to the students.

Ensemble in residence : collective lovemusic (France), whose musicians will rehearse and perform the students’ pieces.

Deadline for application is April 4th, 2021.

Each selected participant will have the following opportunities:

• Lessons with composers Mario Mary, Valerio Sannicandro and Jaime Reis;
• Rehearsals with collective lovemusic (both online, prior to the summer school, and on site);
• Access to other workshops and lectures (to be announced);
• Call for scores for collective lovemusic to be performed at the final concert of the masterclasses on July 10th, 2021. The available instruments are: flute (C, alto, bass), clarinet (Bb, bass), violin, cello and guitar. Any combination (or solo) is possible, as well as pieces with electronics (fixed and live). Acousmatic pieces will also be considered (up to eight channels). Only one piece will be performed. Please note that collective lovemusic needs to receive the scores the latest on June 1st 2021.
• Audio and video recording of the pieces made during the final concert
• Attending all the concerts of the festival which will be held at the same time (July 5-10th, 2021).

The tuition fees depend on the the following categories:

· Active participation (one individual lesson with each tutor) + Piece Performed: €400,00
· Active participation (one individual lesson with each tutor) + Piece Performed (Acousmatic): €300,00
· Passive participation (possibility to attend all activities, no individual lesson and no piece performed): €150

Portuguese composers (or resident in Portugal) are entitled to receive a grant that will range between €50,00 and €200,00. The grant applicants should attach a motivation letter in the formulary with maximum 3000 characters.

Each participant is responsible for her or his travel expenses, accommodation and meals in Lisbon.
