CONTEMPUS is inviting composers from all over the world to compose solo piano pieces that contain pedagogical elements of contemporary piano music. The selected pieces will be performed and recorded in a number of venues in Greece. The scores and recordings will be accessible through the CONTEMPUS digital platform.
Although intended for beginner, intermediate and advanced level players, the pieces should remain faithful to the composer’s musical language and aesthetic.
The project’s artistic team will produce a Teacher’s Guide to accompany each selected piece, to give guidance and insight on the teaching/performing of the piece, including any new musical/technical elements and learning points it provides to the performer.
The pieces will be performed and recorded by the pianists Lenio Liatsou (www.lenioliatsou.com) and Marina Vlachaki.
The project will select approximately 20 composers, who will receive a fee for their piece – ranging from 310€ to 465€.
Guidelines
—Eligibility: The Call is open to composers of any nationality and age.
—Each composer may submit up to two scores.
—All pieces must be written for this call or not be older than three years and should not have been performed publicly, copied, distributed, or made accessible on the internet.
—Duration: The piece (which can also be a group of smaller pieces or movements) is expected to have a total length of 1-6 minutes.
— Score requirements: for one piano (for one or more than one pianist) and can include extended techniques and/or prepared piano.
—It is important that the pieces have both artistic and pedagogical qualities.
