Celebrate Young Composers with Guest Composer-in Residence Jordan Nobles Call for Submissions from composers 19 years of age or younger
The East Vancouver Community Music School is pleased to invite submissions for Celebrate Young Composers(CYC), a composition masterclass as part of our annual Celebrate Canada Music Day events.
Hosted by Juno Award winning Canadian Composer Jordan Nobles, CYC is intended to connect young composers with an established composer. Four young composers will be selected to participate in this public workshop. Jordan Nobles will work one-on-one with each selected composer and discuss their submitted works.
Workshop Eligibility and Details:
The workshop is open to youth 19 years of age and younger who reside in British Columbia and are able to attend the entire workshop 1:00 pm on Sunday February 21, 2021 via Zoom.
Required materials for submission:
Each composer may submit only one score or excerpt of a score, PDF files only, and a recording or midi realization of the score (please send a link to Soundcloud, Youtube, etc.) Submitted works must be the sole property of the applicant. No arrangements or transcription will be accepted. There are no restrictions to genre, instrumentation, etc. We encourage you to submit a piece that reflects your best work. Compositions may be completed or works in progress. Clear and legible scores are important, please consider using music notation software such as Finale or Sibelius.

Selection process:
Preference will be given to works under 5 minutes in length. Excerpts and single movements may be submitted.
Notification of selected composers:
Composers will be notified and sent the Zoom link the week of February 8, 2021.
Those who are not selected or those who have interest in music composition are invited to attend the workshop. Spectators may find the information and advice provided to participants helpful in their own music compositions. Contact us at music@evcms.ca for more information on how to attend.
