ManiFeste, the IRCAM multidisciplinary festival and academy, is a gathering of creative artists in Paris, combining music with other disciplines: theater, dance, digital arts, and visual arts.
This year, after the cancellation of the 2020 edition and the necessary adaptations due to sanitary restrictions for the 2021 edition, the IRCAM team wished to recapture the essence of the academy’s spirit: emulation generated by the collective. The ManiFeste academy allows for discoveries, discussions, and exchanges among the active participants and listeners, guest artists and composers, and partners.
To celebrate this reunion, the academy’s team is concocting a program that will give special attention to the composers working in the ManiFeste festival, with interventions from the Ensemble Intercontemporain musicians, a workshop on composition for children’s voices in partnership with the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles, a presentation of IRCAM’s Cursus by the young composers themselves and many other lectures by special guest composers…
Not to mention the traditional visit of our premises, including the treasures of our multimedia library, the work studios, the astonishing anechoic chamber, and also the Espace de projection, which will reopen its doors in June 2022 after many years of closure. In short, beautiful moments in perspective to celebrate the return to “real” life.
The academy welcomes and trains many young composers, performers, and listeners from all over the world to benefit from our large-scale artistic and technological environment and a large public audience during the workshops.
The Academy will provide an opportunity for auditors (composers, musicians, muscicologists, teachers, researchers…):
- to attend rehearsals of composition workshops and performance master classes
- to follow the courses of the composers, artists, musicians and invited musicians
- to access the exceptional documentary collection of the IRCAM library
- to attend all the academy workshops and master classes free of charge
- to benefit from special rates for ManiFeste-2022 festival concerts
In 2022, the academy will invite, among others, the American composer Augusta Read Thomas, sponsor of the first edition of the ÉLAN prize, in partnership with the Orchestre National d’Île-de-France, the Japanese composer Misato Mochizuki for a workshop with the Ensemble Intercontemporain, the Austrian composer Bernhard Lang for a Collaboratory workshop on improvisation with electronics, and the Percussions de Strasbourg for an ULYSSES ensemble made up entirely of percussionists.
