One Found Sound Emerging Composer Award

One Found Sound is pleased to announce its second annual Emerging Composer Award! Each year, this award will highlight the work of a young composer under the age of 25 who identifies as Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, Pacific Islander, or as a person of color. Selected from an annual call for scores, the winning composition will be performed by One Found Sound and the composer will receive a $1,000 cash prize.

One Found Sound is a San Francisco-based conductorless, collaborative orchestra at the forefront of innovative and barrier-free music. Defining the orchestra as a space for connection, democracy, and inclusion, OFS unites listeners and musicians with bold and resonant performances.

The OFS Emerging Composer Award Includes:
– A $1,000 cash prize
– A performance of the winning composition by One Found Sound
– A live recording of the performance

Eligibility:
– Composer must be no more than 25 years of age on April 1, 2022
– Composer identifies as Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, Pacific Islander, or a person of color.

Application Process:
– Application deadline: April 1, 2022 at 11:59PM PDT
– Winning composition announced: June 2021
– No application fee

Application Guidelines:
– Scores must be submitted in PDF form
– Scores must be accompanied by a live or MIDI recording
– Compositions must be 10 minutes or shorter
– Compositions may call for any combination of the following: up to 20 strings (5/5/4/4/2) + 2 2 2 2 – 2 2 0 0, 2 – percussionists, 1 harpist, 1 electric keyboard
– Compositions may not use acoustic piano
– Winning compositions will be performed without a conductor – we urge applicants to keep this in mind when submitting works
