New York City Contemporary Piano Symposium

The New York City Contemporary Piano Symposium seeks submissions for our spring 2021 concert at Columbia University with pianist Baron Fenwick. Featuring the works of 6-10 selected composers, the concert will take place at Columbia’s beautiful St. Paul’s Chapel in Uptown Manhattan in collaboration with their longstanding series, Music at St. Paul’s, and The Downtown Brooklyn Chamber Music Festival. Each selected composer will receive a high-quality audio and video recording of their performance. Composers are encouraged, but not required, to attend the event.

Awards:
• 6-10 winners will receive a performance and professional recording of their work at our spring 2021

• All applicants will receive feedback from the curation team, plus future programming
consideration

Requirements/Information:
• This call is open to all composers
• Works must be scored for solo piano
• All musical aesthetics are welcome
• Works must not exceed a duration of 15 minutes
• Works need not be premieres nor be composed specifically for this project
• Up to three entries per composer are permissible, each requiring a separate entry fee
• Composers are welcome to attend the performance; regrettably we are unable to offer travel stipends
• The concert will take place in May or June 2021

• All entrants will be notified of their status on or before 02/01/21
• This call is not anonymous
• Recordings/MIDI files are not required

About Pianist Baron Fenwick:
Awarded silver medal in the 2019 Sendai International Music Competition, Baron Fenwick has emerged as a leading pianist of his generation. At 25 years old, he regularly performs with orchestras around the world, this season including the Flint Symphony, the South Shore Symphony, the Wintergreen Festival Orchestra, and the Sendai Philharmonic, among others. He performed with the Mannes Orchestra after winning the 2018 Mannes Concerto Competition. After recently making his debut in Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall, his 2018-2019 recital season brought him to cities from New York to Beijing, and many others. Baron Fenwick received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Mannes College of Music as a student of Vladimir Feltsman and Pavlina Dokovska. Originally from Boone, North Carolina, he now lives in New York City.
