Inversion Ensemble, an Austin, Texas-based choral group focused on the creation and performance of new music, is now accepting submissions for the 2021 Sandra Fivecoat Memorial Emerging Composer Contest: Open Division. This division of our annual contest is open to choral composers of all ages. The winning piece will receive a prize of $500 and a performance at our October 2021 concert, “Through the Prism.” *
The contest details are as follows:
For: Composers of all ages are encouraged to submit original, unpublished choral works. Please submit only one score for consideration.
Submission Deadline: Scores must be submitted no later than Friday, September 24, 2021 at 11:59 PM.
Theme: The theme, Through the Prism, can include choral works about nature, light, or social enlightenment.
Text: All lyrical content must be in the public domain or used by the composer with permission from the author or copyright holder.
Voicing: SATB a cappella or SATB with piano accompaniment; up to 8-part divisi
Duration: 3-5 minutes
Submission Format: Please include a PDF of the score and a performance recording or MIDI audio file. Scores should be created using a digital music-writing program (Finale, Sibelius, Musescore, etc.), even in the case of illustrated/extended-technique scores. Hand-written scores will not be considered. All a cappella compositions must include a piano reduction. The composer’s name should be removed from the score to ensure impartial judging.
Other requirements: Please include in your email a headshot, bio, and program notes for your submitted composition. These are for performance purposes only and will not be seen by the judging panel until the results are final.
Exclusions: The contest is not open to any current or past singers with Inversion Ensemble, or composers living outside of the U.S./U.S territories.
