SANS; duo is a Classical Guitar and Saxophone new music duo looking for works that can be performed compellingly while physically remote in an online format. We are in the process of planning our summer and fall 2021 concerts, and would love to find and sponsor exciting, forward thinking works to present. These concerts can exist in many different formats, including everything from Zoom concerts, to pre recorded videos, to custom online performance situations, to anything else you can think of!
What we are looking for:
Ideas, plans, sketches, improvisation prompts, situations, funky technology, anything!
Things that can be preferably performed live while performers are physically distanced.
New works or existing pieces are both fine!
Artists of all kinds. If you paint or dance or compose or do projection art and have an idea for a collaboration, we’d love to hear from you!
Things for two people. Jonathan and Brian sum to be two people. They do lots of things other than just play their instruments, including speak, breathe, do electronics, limited percussion, bluegrass, found sound improv, bird watching, and much much more.
We are trained classical musicians, so if you want to write us a piece with a score and sheet music and staves, that is totally totally ok!
What we are NOT looking for:
You to write a whole score before chatting with us! This is a call for proposals, and if your idea isn’t going to work for some reason, we want to have that chat with you before you to sink time into a piece that is going to collect dust. (However, if you are suggesting an existing work for us and already have a score, that is fine!)
Music where tight rhythmic ensemble cohesion is fore-fronted. Nothing is off the table, but if the piece would really work better in person, it might not be up our alley.
What you should include in your email if you are interested:
Name / bio / headshot / website / social media / portfolio / whatever, so we can see who you are!
A one-page (max) PDF explaining the project you’d like to do with us, including links to any supporting documentation (videos, pictures, scores, etc.) that will help explain your proposal
Any budget you might need to make this project happen. We have limited funding, but do believe in paying collaborators for their time. (If you don’t have experience with this, feel free to reach out and we can chat)
If you need a deadline to plan and motivate you, then all proposals must be received by March 15th to be considered for performance!!!! (or just send it whenever you’re ready, no pressure) Decisions will be made on a rolling basis.
When you’re ready to share your idea, send it to Brian and Jonathan both with the subject line “SANS; duo – call for proposals” at brianellissound at gmail.com and jehostottle at gmail.com
