The Competition, which had among the winners famous quartets including Keller, Artemis e Kuss, is member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions. Dedicated to Paolo Borciani, founder of the world-famous Quartetto Italiano, it takes place every three years in order to focus the attention on chamber music, which is believed to be the essence of all musical principles, and it shows a better than € 45.000 prize pool.
The Jury chaired by Emmanuel Hondré (Philharmonie de Paris) also featured Martin Beaver (Tokyo SQ), Francesco Dillon (Prometeo QT), Veronika Hagen (Hagen QT), Alexander Lonquich, Kim Kashkashian, Abel Tomàs (Casals QT). In the pre-selection commission: Emilie Delorme (Académie d’Aix en Provence), Jeanne Maisonhaute (Tana QT), Geneviève Strosser, Francesco Filidei.
Among performed pieces will be the world premiere of a piece commissioned to the Japanese composer Toshio Hosokawa.
UPDATE: Fondazione I Teatri di Reggio Emilia is pleased to announce the reopening of the selection procedure for the 12th International String Quartet Competition “Premio Paolo Borciani” – which, originally planned for 2020, as a consequence of Covid-19 will be postponed to June 2021, from 5th to 13th, in Reggio Emilia, Italy.
