Ningde, China – The inaugural Ningde Composition Camp officially opens its call for submissions, inviting composers worldwide under 36 to draw inspiration from the region’s stunning coastal landscapes. This unique international initiative, set against the breathtaking backdrop of Ningde’s mountains and sea, aims to foster cross-cultural dialogue and support the creation of new orchestral music.
A joint project of the Fujian Musicians Association, Ningde City Culture and Tourism Development Group, and the Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra, the camp seeks to become a flagship event in China’s musical calendar. The jury will be chaired by the renowned composer Mehdi Hosseini.
Five selected composers will be awarded a fully-funded residency in Ningde from December 16-21, 2025. The prize includes participation in masterclasses with internationally acclaimed composer-jurors and field studies of the local environment. The culminating event will be the world premiere of the composers’ new works by the Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra in a symphony concert in Ningde on April 2, 2026.
“There is a profound connection between the soundscapes of nature and musical creation,” stated a camp organizer. “We aim to provide a transformative environment where young composers can find their voice and contribute to the global repertoire.”
