Saint Mary’s College Women’s Choir’s Composition Competition

With the intent of supporting the next generation of minority women composers through performance and recording opportunities, the Saint Mary’s College Women’s Choir, Dr. Nancy Menk, conductor, along with arts equity advocate Del’Shawn Taylor, announces it new composition competition.

Criteria for Composers
• Early stage of composition career
• Identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, or person of color) and female
• 25 and under
Criteria for Submissions
• Must not have been previously performed, published, or recorded
• Must be written for Treble choir (2-4 parts) acapella or Treble choir with piano accompaniment and/or the choice of one obligato instrument
• Texts may be sacred or secular
• Duration between 3-5 minutes

Prizes
• First prize: $1,000 cash prize with performance and recording of the composition by the Saint Mary’s College Women’s Choir in April 2022
• Second prize: $750 cash prize with a reading of the composition by the Saint Mary’s College Women’s Choir

Entry
• To enter please send the following attachments to artsaccessandopportunity@gmail.com:
o Completed score (1 per composer) in PDF format
o MIDI rendering(s)
o 150-word maximum bio in PDF format
o If applicable, a letter of permission from the text’s copyright owner
• Submissions must be received by Dec. 20th, 2021 by 11:50 PST. The winners will be announced on February 1st, 2021.
