The competition is in honour of Robin Johnson, a long-standing member of the Choir whose presence is greatly missed. He left the choir a generous legacy to nurture our activities. Throughout his life, Robin had connections with the sea, sailing and the river Thames, so we have chosen the theme ‘On the Water’.
The composition should be a choral piece for SATB choir plus piano or organ, lasting between four and five minutes. Composers may choose their own text, which may be sacred or secular in content.
A shortlist of the competition pieces will be performed by Chiswick Choir in a concert on Saturday 3rd July 2021 at St Nicholas Church in Chiswick. It will be conducted by our Musical Director Hilary Campbell and accompanied by Ben Lewis-Smith.
We will welcome Cecilia McDowall and Stephen Jackson as adjudicators on the night. There will be a 1st prize of £1,000 and a 2nd prize of £500.
