Time of Music Festival offers in the summer 2019 interesting opportunities to study contemporary music with the world’s first and foremost composers, pedagogues and musicians. We welcome all interested music students and young professionals, both composers and musicians to deepen their knowledge of the classics of contemporary music and enhance their skills in composition and improvisation. All courses will be taught in English.
Course fee is 250 €. The fee includes participation to one course, free public lectures and discussions, as well as free entrance to all festival concerts. The festival will not be able to give grants to cover course fees. The materials are not included to course fee.
The courses take also passive students space permitting. With the fee of 100 € passive students can listen to all courses excluding private lessons. Passive student fee doesn’t include entrances to festival concerts.
Composer course, teacher Kaija Saariaho

The composer course consists of public lectures and private student lessons. It is possible to apply for the course with an option to compose a new piece for a chamber ensemble (e.g. Uusinta Ensemble) which will be premiered during the festival, or without the option. The ensembles available (2–5 musicians) will be notified to the accepted applicants.
Course is for advanced students or young professionals in composition

Chamber music course for performers, tutor flutist Camilla Hoitenga

During the course young students and professionals to become have a chance to work with flutist Camilla Hoitenga on agreed contemporary solo and chamber music. Hoitenga is especially well known for her collaboration with Kaija Saariaho and Karlheinz Stockhausen. The course consists of solo and chamber music lessons and ends with a public concert. Applications can be submitted as a solo player, a existing duo or chamber collective. Age limit: Born after 1.1.1987
Improvisation course “The Geometry of Sentiment” with John Butcher

The course will be a practical exploration of the rewards and challenges of solo, small group and large ensemble improvisation, the aim being to develop one’s own voice in a way that makes sense both as a soloist and in collaborative, spontaneous music making. Age limit: Born after 1.1.1987
