Salavat Safiullin (born 1987) is a musician and sound artist. He graduated from the Faculty of Natural Geography of the BSPU, named after Akmulla in Ufa. In 2009, he entered the postgraduate program of the Department of Botany, Bioecology, and Landscape Design at the same university. While studying at the university, he independently studied painting and music, and his first exhibitions and sound performances were held at the Museum of Modern Art.

In 2013, he moved to St. Petersburg, where he studied at the School of Improvisational Music at ESG-21 (Sound Museum). He began to perform with the St. Petersburg Improviser Orchestra and in many projects, including free jazz bands, and he was also engaged in the sound production of experimental electronic music. In 2014, Salavat took courses in free improvisation and composition by Professor Gunter Sommer at the Hochschule fur Musik Carl Maria von Weber, Dresden.

Together with Nikolai Rubanov, he participated in the third CSound International Conference. As a free listener, he attended the course “Modern Musical Theater” by composer Vladimir Rannev. As a performer, he collaborates with composers Vladimir Gorlinsky and Alexey Sysoev; as a sound artist and composer, he worked with the Sasha Kukin Dance Theater and with young performative artists working at the intersection of dance and digital visual arts.

Nowadays, Safiullin is an active participant in the improvisational scene of St. Petersburg. His interests include sound art, electroacoustics, sound synthesis, sound design, free composition, and sound recording.
