Open-air concert of experimental electronic music

Oleg Makarov — composer, sound-artist, media-artist, instrument designer (hardware / firmware systems). He composes music across the spectrum from instrumental and vocal to electrocoustiс, since 2006 he scores for radio plays. Since 2004 he has had his music, multimedia installation and performances, multichannel and algorithmic sound-installations presented in many local and international art-festivals.

He regularly performs his fixed and improvised electro-acoustic music at leading experimental platforms. He conducts experiments between various forms of art and radioelectronics, computer programming, etc., researching visual programming environments for interactivity algorithms as applied to sound, movement and video.
As a sound- and media-artist, he works in theatre, he is also very active as a teacher.

Dmitry Shubin is a musician and artist based in St.Petersburg, Russia. His activities covers various areas of new music: contemporary piano music, electroacoustics, new improvised music, conducted improvisation, and graphic notations.

Dmitry Shubin is pianist and improviser, performing live improvised music. He also creates sound installations and audio-video projects with emphasis on the integration of sound and image. He is a conductor of St.Petersburg Improvisers Orchestra, as well as St.Petersburg Improvisers Choir; a founder of Sound Theater; curator of the School for Improvised Music (St.Petersburg). He is the laureate of the Grand Prix of The Sergey Kuryokhin Contemporary Art Award (2016).

SymphoCat is an electronic music composer, media artist, curator, and founder of the Symphonic Silence Inside label, where he has been releasing experimental electronica and contemporary ambient music for over fifteen years. SymphoCat’s work intertwines electroacoustic and space music, ambient and field recordings, as well as elements of modern classical, avant-garde and minimalism.

Performances of SymphoCat took place in various locations from events in parks, museums and philharmonic halls to large-scale underground electronic music festivals. Ilia has participated in many audiovisual projects, including collaborations with live orchestras and choirs, various art groups, dancers, and video artists.

Ilia currently oversees the New Electronic Music programme and works in the project department at the New Stage of the Alexandrinsky Theatre.

The 12th St. Petersburg International New Music Festival, the largest annual forum of contemporary classical music in Russia and one of the most comprehensive platforms for global new music events. It will be held from May 23 to June 7, 2025. Organized by the St. Petersburg Contemporary Music Center ‘reMusik.org’ under the direction of the artistic director and prominent composer Mehdi Hosseini, the festival is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Government of St. Petersburg, and the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives.

The two-week festival will showcase over 70 diverse artistic events. Concerts will take place at premier music venues across the beautiful city of St. Petersburg. In addition to the many concerts, the festival will also feature online and offline educational programs, presentations, round table discussions, lectures, composer readings, creative meetings, and educational programs called “Composer Courses” for young authors from around the world that are led by prominent teachers from around the globe. Additionally, there will be a laboratory dedicated to improvisational and experimental music.

The St. Petersburg International New Music Festival is a unique event within Russia’s musical culture. It encompasses various aspects of modern academic music, including experimental, electroacoustic, electronic music, multimedia projects, sound art, as well as’ free improvisation’. The presentation format is not limited to traditional academic concerts, but goes beyond it by incorporating diverse performances and experimental shows.
