Announcing the result of the 3rd International Sergei Slonimsky Composition Competition

The final of the third International Contest of Sergey Slonimsky’s Composition was held in St. Petersburg, Russia. The final ceremony and concert, in which the new compositions of the participants were performed, took place on May 23, 2018 as part of the 5th St. Petersburg International New Music Festival “reMusik.org”.

During the admission period the organization committee received applications from Canada, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Iran, Italy, Russia, Switzerland, Thailand, United Kingdom and the United States. The judges narrowed it down to four finalists Anselm McDonnell, Eleni Ralli, Piyawat Louilarpprasert and Vladimir Ladomirov.

The four finalists enjoyed the opportunity of hearing their composition rehearsed and performed by the Moscow ensemble “Gallery of Actual Music Ensemble (GAMEnsemble)” under the direction of Oleg Paiberdin, as well as receiving feedback from the performers and the distinguished jury of the competition, consisting of Franck Bedrossian (France), Arturo Corrales (Switzerland), Claude Ledoux (Belgium), Alexander Radvilovich, Alexander Popov and Dmitri Kourliandski (Russia).

The winning composition for the 2018 Competition was Breathing Machine by Piyawat Louilarpprasert (Thailand).

The Sergei Slonimsky Composition Competition will do its best to continue to seek out and support able composers world-wide. We are passionately committed to helping young musicians to develop their creative and performing talents and this competition provides an exciting venture in fulfilling this aim.
